Casket bearers were nephews: Mark Ostdiek, Paul Ostdiek, Richard Ostdiek, Kenneth Ostdiek, Dale Bradley, Ronald Golka, Robert Ostdiek, Dan Sullivan, William Ostdiek and Christopher Ostdiek. Lectors were nieces: Nancy Ostdiek and Sandra Haggard. Eucharist ministers of the Cup were: Marion Ostdiek, Doris Bradley, Mary Beth Kurtenbah and Allen Ostdiek. Serving the Mass offered for their Great Aunt were: Joe Golka, Michael Golka, John Sparks, Andrew Cecava and Scott Ross. A Rosary and Wake service, including reminiscing by the family, was held on Monday night at the church. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery near Lawrence, Nebraska. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska was in charge of arrangements. Mary Alice Meyer was born June 11, 1934, the sixth of thirteen children of Hubert and Louise (Brockman) Ostdiek, in Lawrence, Nebraska. Mary A. died on Friday, May 29, 1998, in her home in Overland Park, Kansas, following a battle with cancer that lasted a little over a year, at the age of 63 years, 11 months and 18 days. Mrs. Meyer graduated from Lawrence High School and the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She worked in Chicago, Illinois, before returning to Nebraska to operate the North Bend newspaper for several years. She was manager of Corporate Accounting for Kellwood Corporation in St. Louis before her marriage. Mary Alice married Richard Meyer, formerly of Nelson, Nebraska, October 31, 1981, and from then on lived in Overland Park, Kansas. She managed an H & R Block Income Tax office for a number of years before her death. Her husband died March 20, 1994. Mary Alice lived her life as an example of an exemplinary Christian woman. First as a single women (sic) she demonstrated a love and respect for her religion and family that knew no bounds. After her marriage, she was a devoted wife and served as a "secondary" mother to her 64 nieces, nephews and spouses. She earned the love and respect of all she encountered. Mrs. Meyer was preceded in death by her parents in 1979, husband, and one brother, Alfred who died in 1976. Survivors are a stepson, Mark Meyer of Olathe, Kansas; seven brothers, Glen Ostdiek of Clarendon Hills, Illinois, Linus "Joe" Ostdiek of Georgetown, Texas, Marion Ostdiek of Sun City Center, Florida, Bob Ostdiek and Larry Ostdiek, both of Gretna, Nebraska, Lee Ostdiek of Blue Hill, Nebraska and Allen Ostdiek of Lawrence, Nebraska; four sisters, Doris Bradley of Neenah, Wisconsin, Lou Ann Mitton of Thousand Oaks, California, Pat Golka of Grand Island and Julene Sullivan of Superior, Nebraska.
