Pallbearers were her grandsons: Paul Ostdiek, Ron Golka, Tim Bradley and Tom Ostdiek and two nephews: Howard Brockman and Frankcis Hoelting, a godson. Louise Clara Ostdiek was born on August 29, 1906 at her parents home near St. Stephen, Lawrence, Nebraska. She was the daughter of ______ and Wilhelmina (Buescher) Brockman. Her unexpected death on April 1, 1979 was the result of a heart attack she experienced three days earlier. She died at the Mary Lanning hospital (sic) in Hastings, Nebr. She attended grammar school at the St. Stephen's and Sacred Heart Schools. She graduated from St. ________ Academy in York, Nebraska. She attended several summer sessions at the Grand Island Business College. After her formal schooling she taught at the country school district number 61 for two years. She was married to Hubert C. Ostdiek on September 20, 1927 at St. Stephen's Church. To this union were born thirteen children. While raising the family, she found time to be involved in church, school, and community affairs. Louise had been a member, and held most offices at some point in the time in the following organizations: The American Legion Auxiliary, The Sacred Heart Altar Society, Sacred Heart Home and School organization, the Ladies Golf Club and the Lincoln Diocese Counsel of Catholic Women. In addition to these, she had long been active in the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce. Although her primary interest was her husband, family and church, Louise's interest, compassion and activities included everyone in her community of Lawrence. Her love and warmth earned her many friends. Her counsel and advise brought by many on a wide variety of subjects. She was a historian for many in Lawrence and St. Stephens, indeed, many came to look upon her as their second mother due to her interest, concern and love shown to so many. In 1943, when the family purchased the Lawrence Locomotive, Louise had been the chief news reporter and writer for the newspaper. She believed in the value of a newspaper for a town and spent most of her energy in giving the people they wanted and they could be proud of. To her husband, Louise was an ideal Christian wife, and to her children, an ideal Christian mother, in her own quiet way, she taught the children the value of education. During her later years, she enjoyed traveling with her husband as they traveled across the United States to visit their children and also to see points of interest in this country. Louise was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Alfred; two granddaughters, Lisa Ostdiek and Jennifer Mitton; two brothers: John and Henry and two sisters: Regina (who died in early childhood) and Dora (Brockman) Hoelting. She is survived by her husband, Hubert; seven sons: Glen Ostdiek of Clarendon Hills, Ill.; Linus Ostdiek of Fond du Lac, Wisc.; Marion Ostdiek of Bangkok, Thailand; Bob Ostdiek and Larry Ostdiek both of Gretna, Nebraska; Leland Ostdiek of Blue Hill, Nebraska, and Allen Ostdiek of Lawrence, Nebraska and five daughters: Mary Alice Ostdiek of St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. John F. Bradley (Doris) of Neenah, Wisc.; Mrs. Dick Mitton (Lou Ann) of Woodland Hills, Calif.; Mrs. Bob Golka (Patty) of Grand Island, Nebraska and Mrs. Richard Sullivan (Julene) of Superior, Nebraska. Also surviving are 62 grandchildren, many neices (sic) and nephews, relatives and friends. Friends and relatives attending the funeral from a distance were from Blue Hill, Nelson, Deweese, Clay Center, Glenvil, Superior, Hastings, Grand Island, Hebron, McCook, Benkleman, Bird City, Ks., Beatrice, Bartley, Indianola, Hays Center, Ne., Doniphan, Orleans, Shelby, Kearney, Denver, Wood River, Friend, Campbell, Minden, Lincoln. In honor of her grandmother, the following verse was written by Mary Beth Ostdiek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Ostdiek which was read at the funeral Mass - LOUISE Mother of thirteen Grandmother of six times that. Your subtle presence with us always. In such a happy home Though the years have scattered us from one corner to the next. We are always guided back, no matter how far away, to such a lovely home.
