Description	:	Mary Amanda Bailey was born January 12, 1835, in Oxford, Chester County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of William and Mary A. (Holstein) Bailey. Mary first married Isaac C. Bailey on December 13, 1860, in Worchester, Chester County, Pennsylvania. Isaac was born about September 15, 1835, in Pennsylvania. (His headstone inscription reads 29 years and 4 months). The identity of his parents is not known at this time, but he is not believed to have been related to Mary. Read More	Mary Amanda Bailey was born January 12, 1835, in Oxford, Chester County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of William and Mary A. (Holstein) Bailey. Mary first married Isaac C. Bailey on December 13, 1860, in Worchester, Chester County, Pennsylvania. Isaac was born about September 15, 1835, in Pennsylvania. (His headstone inscription reads 29 years and 4 months). The identity of his parents is not known at this time, but he is not believed to have been related to Mary. In the 1860 Census, both Mary and Isaac are employed at the farm of Caleb Phipps in Highland, Chester County, Pennsylvania. Isaac as a farm laborer and Mary as doing domestic work. This may be where they met. Mary and Isaac had the following known children: 1. William Ellsworth Bailey (1861-1943) 2. Martha Ella Bailey (1863-1868) Isaac enlisted in the Civil War and was killed during the second battle of Fort Fisher, New Hanover County, North Carolina on January 15, 1865. Mary applied for and was granted a widow's pension. About 1868, Mary, her children, her parents and some of her siblings moved to Cedar County, Iowa. Here she met William Mahanay and they were married March 30, 1870, in Cedar County, Iowa. William was born April 29, 1822, in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, the son of William Mahanay. He had been previously married to Rosanna Geller (1831-1868) and had four daughters. William and Mary did not have any children. William also served during the Civil War as a blacksmith. William died August 3, 1906, in Tipton, Cedar County, Iowa. Mary died May 19, 1908, in Cedar County, Iowa. Following is a transcription of Mary's obituary originally supplied by "Jacie" who created Mary's Find A Grave memorial: Tipton Advertiser, 28 May 1908 page 5 Mary A. Mahaney was born in Chester County, Penn., January 24, 1836, and died at her home in Tipton, Iowa, last Tuesday, May 19, 1908. She came to Iowa in the year 1868 and in March 1870 was married to Mr. Mahaney. A brother and sister and one son by a former marriage survive her, the latter making his home in the state of Washington. Mrs. Mahaney lead one of the modest, quiet lives, was yet strongly influential for good and she will be missed by a large circle of neighbors, friends and co-workers in church circles. For the past few years she has served very acceptably a chaplain of the W.R.C. She was treasurer of the local (illegible) at the time of her death and her thirty-nine years membership and faithful attendance, and working in the church speak eloquently of the ideals and the motives swaying her life. obit typed as written in newspaper
