Description	:	William Mahanay was born April 29, 1822, in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, the son of William Mahanay. He first married Rosanna Geller on September 1, 1848. Rosanna was born June 5, 1831, in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Adam and Elizabeth (Lybarger) Geller. They had the following known children: 1. Amanda V. He first married Rosanna Geller on September 1, 1848. Rosanna was born June 5, 1831, in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Adam and Elizabeth (Lybarger) Geller. They had the following known children: 1. Amanda V. (Mahanay) Sutton (1849-1928) 2. Hilaray (Mahanay) Blake (1854-1887) 3. Ester Ann (Mahanay) Weed (1858-1889) 4. Emma E. Mahanay (1860-1907) 5. Son Mahanay 6. Son Mahanay William served during the Civil War in Company G of the 99th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was a blacksmith by trade. Rosanna died July 7, 1868, in Tipton, Cedar County, Iowa. William then married Mary Amanda (Bailey ) Bailey on March 30, 1870, in Cedar County, Iowa. Mary was born January 12, 1835, in Oxford, Chester County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of William and Mary A. (Holstein) Bailey. She was the widow of Isaac C. Bailey (1835-1865) and had two children, William and Martha. (Martha was deceased before her mother's 2nd marriage.) William died August 3, 1906, in Tipton, Cedar County, Iowa. William's youngest daughter, Emma continued to live with Mary until her death in 1907. Mary died May 19, 1908, in Cedar County, Iowa. Following is a transcription of William's obituary provided by Jacie, the original creator of this memorial: Tipton Advertiser Front Page 7 Aug 1906 Mr. Wm. Mahaney was born in Bedford Co., Penn., April 22nd, 1822, died in Tipton, Ia., Aug. 3, 1906. Left an orphan in early life, he came west to Iowa in 1865 locating in Tipton, which place has since been his home. Mr. Mahaney was married twice, Sept. 1st, 1848 to Rosana Geller and March 30th, 1870 to Mrs. Mary Bailey, who now survives him. Three girls and two boys were the children of the first marriage, all of whom are dead but Mrs. Sutton of Boone, Ia., and Miss Emma of this city. Mr. Mahaney was a blacksmith and in the war was in the employ of the government at Washington, but he enlisted and served in the field through the last year of the war. The funeral services were conducted yesterday morning from the Lutheran church of which Mr. Mahaney had been a faithful and consistent member for over forty years. J. Kent Rizer the pastor officiating and the well filled house betokened the esteem in which Mr. Mahaney was held and the desire on the part of many to show true sympathy for the family. The Woman's Relief corps, and the Grand Army of the Republic attended in a body the latter conducting the burial services at the cemetery. obituary typed as written - Obit states he was born the 22nd of April but gravestone says he was born the 29th of April
