Was Last of Early Colony Sole Survivor of Original Robinson Families who Settled in Prairie Township in Early Day. Funeral Services Held on Tuesday. A sacrificial life with a span of more than eighty-eight years came to a close on Saturday, April 14, 1923, with the passing at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. D. Corell, in North Manchester, of Mrs. Johnston Robinson. Death was due to paralysis and came after a decline of three months. Mrs. Robinson was not only the last of her immediate family, but she was as well the sole survivor of that pioneer colony of Robinsons who settled at Silver Creek in the 50's. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon from St. Paul's church, in charge of Orient chapter, O. E. S., of which she was the oldest charter member. The sermon was by the Rev. F. A. Smith of Delhi, and burial will be made later at the cemetery adjoining the Silver Creek church, beside the bodies of her husband and several of her children. A Native of Ireland Mary Anderson was born on Nov. 15, 1834, in County Fermanaugh, Ireland, and when a girl of fourteen years came with her sister Margaret, living for several years with an aunt in Pittsburgh, Pa. On April 5, 1854, she was married to Johnston Robinson. In 1855 Mr. and Mrs. Robinson made the wearisome journey to the then far west, locating on a farm in the Silver Creek neighborhood, this county. Dubuque was then the nearest trading point and railroad terminal, and the pioneers passed through severe hardships, being twice burned out by prairie fires. After a residence of ten years at Silver Creek Mr. and Mrs. Robinson moved to what is now the Boxwell farm, north of Manchester, later going to a farm in Coffin's Grove township, and in 1898 to Manchester, where Mr. Robinson died in 1911. Since that time Mrs. Robinson had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Corell, who gave her affectionate and unremitting care. Lost Four Children in Week. Mrs. Robinson's life had seen its share of sorrow. In an early day four of her children, all of tender years, died in one week with diphtheria. Another child died in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. W. D. Work, passed away here in 1918. The surviving children are: Mrs. Ann Fitch of Omaha, Neb., (formerly Mrs. Chas. Staehle of Earlville); Anthony and Archie of Newman's Grove, Neb.; Robert of Albion, Neb.; Mrs. Leona Parker of Bishop, Calif.; and Mrs Corell of this city. There also remain twenty grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. From childhood Mrs. Robinson was an earnest, loyal member of the Methodist church and exemplified its teachings in a life of unselfish, loyal service to those about her. Her long life was crowded full of good deeds and helpful ministry, and her neighborly heart kept her home open to all. She leaves a blessed heritage to her children, the memory of a glorious life of self-denial, devoted service and saintly motherhood. All of her children save two, Robert and Mrs. Parker, were privileged to be here to mingle their tears in the loss of one to whom they owe so great a debt of love, and they look forward to the reunion promised to those who faithfully love and serve.
