Description	:	Mary Anita Long Russell, of Leonardtown, MD, passed away on February 1, 2016 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 23, 1926 in St. Mary’s County, MD, to the late Francis Irving and Eunice Agatha Knott Long. Anita married her beloved husband, James Benjamin Russell, Jr. in 1946 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Morganza, MD. Read More	Mary Anita Long Russell, of Leonardtown, MD, passed away on February 1, 2016 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 23, 1926 in St. Mary’s County, MD, to the late Francis Irving and Eunice Agatha Knott Long. Anita married her beloved husband, James Benjamin Russell, Jr. in 1946 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Morganza, MD. Together they celebrated 61 wonderful years together before his passing in July 2007. She was employed as a dedicated New Accounts Clerk for over 36 years at Maryland National Bank before her retirement in 1988. In retirement she enjoyed traveling to Ireland with Rev. Connelly and Rev. Berry. She also went with Rev. Connelly to California. Other vacations included cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska and Hawaii. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed sewing and quilting. She helped to launder and iron the alter linens and made all the baptismal robes for the babies that were baptized at St. Aloysius Church. Anita was a volunteer with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, St. Aloysius Catholic Church, and the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Anita is survived by her children, Richard Francis Russell and Michael Wayne Russell (Catherine), both of Leonardtown, MD; her sister, Estelle M. Bowles of Loveville, MD; her grandchildren, Melissa Marie Russell (William) of Leonardtown, MD., Kenneth Robert Russell (Stacey) of Chesapeake, MD, Katelyn Michele Russell of Avenue, MD and Kyle Patrick Russell (Dianne) of Leonardtown, MD and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband she is also preceded in death by her siblings, Benedict Long, Catherine B. Meehan, Ethel Cecilia Anderson, Francis J. “Buzzy” Long, Nellie T. Hayden, Gladys M. Lambert, and Joseph I. Long. Family received friends for Anita’s Life Celebration on Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 p. m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., at Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev. John Dakes on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 22800 Washington Street, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth Russell, Kyle Russell, Joseph Bowles, William Meehan, William “Bill” Lambert and Edward Long. Memorial Contribution may be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s, P. O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650 or Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 50, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
