Read More	Progress Review, La Porte City, Iowa Thursday, January 1, 1942, Page 1 Mrs. Mary Ann McQuilkin Dies on Sunday Afternoon Mrs. Mary Ann McQuilkin passed away at her home on Commerical street Sunday afternoon at three o’clock from complications due to advanced age. Alth Mrs. McQuilkin was eighty-six years old she was able to be around and took an interest in her home until about a week ago. She as the daughter of Horner and Jane A. Marshall Brown, born June 30, 1885, in DeKalb, Ill. She came here with her parents in the spring of 1856 and settled west of town. As a young girl she taught in the rural schools until she married John N. McQuiklin in January, 1877. They farmed south of town until about 1891 when they came to La Porte City. Her husband died Sept. 30, 1925. Mrs. McQuilkin was a member of the Presbyterian church, Lyra chapter, O.E.S., and of the Lotus club as long as she was able to attend. She was the last of a family of eleven children and is survived by several nephews and nieces and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Alma Brown, who has made her home with her most of the time for the last twenty years. The funeral was Tuesday afternoon with Rev. B.L. Tallman officiating, with burial in West View cemetery. The O.E.S. attended in a body, Mrs. F.E. Lehman and Mrs. Harry Kline sang selections, accompanied by Lillian Garrabrant. Casket bearers were Greer, Wayne and Kirk McQuilkin, Merle Anderson, Orr Wiley and Robert Stewart. Those from out of town who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stewart and R.V. Barnes, from Waterloo; Elizabeth and Orr Wiley, from Traer.
