From the Cedar Rapids Republican we clip the following account of death: "On returning from Sunday School to her home, 1647 B avenue, east, shortly after 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Miss Lulu Birdell Jones found her mother, Mrs. Mary Jones, lying near the gas stove and dead from asphyxiation. An investigation by Coroner King showed that Mrs. Jones had fainted while bending down to turn on the gas and thus accidentally met her death. "Mrs. Jones had been suffering from fainting spells. A short time ago she fainted and fell in such a way that she sustained a cut on her forehead. This cut had to be sewed by a physician. Sunday shortly before noon as Miss Lulu Jones was leaving for the Sunday school, her mother cheerfully talked about a choice dish she would prepare before the daughter returned home. The mother had to bend down to on the gas in the stove. Coroner King's investigation showed that she evidently fainted immediately after turning on the gas. "Mrs. Jones was born 62 years ago in Racine, Wis., and came to Iowa at an early age. She resided for many years at Iowa Falls. About five years ago she removed to Cedar Rapids. Her husband, Robert A. Jones, a traveling salesman died a year ago last June. The deceased was a member of Central Park Presbyterian church. Mrs. Jones is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Percy, Miss Alice Jones and Miss Lulu Birdell Jones and three sons Albert R. of Des Moines, Leonard R. of Fargo, N.D. and Niles William Jones of St. Louis." The deceased was the sister of Messrs. W.R. and T.E. Gittins of Williamsburg and her young years were spent in the old Gittins home northeast of town. The funeral services were held in the Congregational church Tuesday morning upon the arrival of the body from Cedar Rapids. The services were conducted by the Rev. Conybeare, pastor of the Central Park Presbyterian church, Cedar Rapids, assisted by the Rev. John Roberts, pastor of the Congregational church. The children and several friends accompanied the body to Williamsburg and the services were attended by a large gathering of the Williamsburg friends and relatives. The interment was in the Oak Hill beside the body of the husband who died more than a year ago. Mrs. Jones was a splendid woman, a sincere Christian, and her untimely death is regretted by many.
