Mrs. McAsey was the eldest of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Grannell and came with her parents when but a child, to Kansas, locating in the Straight Creek neighborhood, and across these early years shared in the trying experiences incident to pioneer life. She was united in marriage to John Patrick McAsey June 8, 1887 and immediately upon their marriage moved to their home north of Holton where there were born to them eleven children, two of whom, Edward and Michael Joseph, died in infancy. Mrs. McAsey embodied in here life those elements of character and traits of womanliness that distinguished her among women. Motherhood had meaning and significance in her thinking and she exemplified in a beautiful way those qualities that drew and help within the circle of her love not only her children, but all those that knew her. No experience in her life was more satisfying to her than the family gatherings when the children with their own groups would gather under the parental roof and around the home fireside; and it was, above all, the presence of mother in the midst that radiated the warmth of home affections. All of her fine qualities of heart and life were sanctified by a loving devotion to her Lord and to the church. Her chief concern was that her children should not only maintain an active connection with the church but express in their lives it precepts and teachings. The memory of her life falls as a sweet benediction over all those who knew her, constantly inspiring them to choose the purest and best in life. She is survived by her husband and the following children: Mrs. Julia Flynn and Mrs. Agnes Lundstrom of Denver, Colo.; Timothy of Effingham, Kans.; John F. of Salina; Mrs. Grace Flynn, Mrs. Ellen Kidney, Matthew J., Mrs. Rose Beems and William H. of Holton. In addition to the eight grandchildren, one brother, Thomas Grannell, of Netawaka, survive her. Funeral services were held Friday morning in St. Dominic’s church with Father Ryan in charge of the services, assisted by Father Twomey of Delia. The large number of people in attendance bore testimony to the high esteem in which she was held. Robert Hauser, James McAdam, Jack Forester, Earl Synder, William McFadden, and Edgar Bohannon assisted in bearing the body to its last resting place in the Catholic cemetery.
