April 1975 ~~~~~~~ Stanton Weekly 3-27-1919: Mary Ann Javesion (sic), wife of Robert Hume was born in Scotland on May 4, 1835 and died in Stanton, Nebraska March 19, 1919, aged 83 years, 10 months and 15 days. She was united in marriage to Mr. Hume on July 16, 1858. Thus, they joined in life together for over 62 years. To this union there were born 10 children. Four have preceded her to the spirit world. Those living are Maggie Dolan of Stanton, Neb., James of Lodge Pole, Nebr., Robert of Tekama, (sic) Nebr., William of Norfolk, Nebr., Alex of Gross, Nebr. There are also 24 grand children and 5 great- grand children. Mr. and Mrs. Hume came from Scotland to Nebraska in the year 1869 and settled on their homestead in Stanton County. Here they lived, enduring the privations and hardships of pioneer life, until in 1899 when they sold the farm and moved to Stanton, Nebr., where they have since resided. Mrs. Hume was a good Christerian (sic) mother. Nothing better can be said of any one than this. She was greatly devoted to her family and did all in her power for the comfort and happiness of those whom she loved. The trials and privations of Nebraska pioneer life were often very severe but bore them with true courage and faith in God. Her old time neighbors with whom she lived in those early days now speak in praise of her generous hospitality and kindly spirit. She will be missed by her husband and children and friends. But they bear in their hearts the consciousness that whatever of good there is for humanity in the great beyond she was fully prepared for its enjoyment. She was a member of the Cong. Church in Stanton and her present pastor who knew her for 21 years bears willing testimony to her noble Christian character. Funeral services were held in the home on March 21st and interment was in the beautiful cemetery adjoining the city of Stanton.
