Duckworth were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home, Second and Monona Street, and 2:30 o'clock from the First Methodist Episcopal Church. The services, which were largely attended by friends of the deceased, were conducted by the pastor of the church, Rev. Collins, assisted by the Rev. J. Charles Crawford, pastor of the Gospel Tabernacle and long a friend of the deceased. Many beautiful floral offerings were sent as a tribute to the esteem in which Mrs. Duckworth was held by her friends and relatives. The remains were taken to Linwood and burial was in the family plot. The pallbearers were friends of the family and were as follows: C. A. Osgood, J. H. Dale, W. R. Dyer, Elwood Frampton, John T. Watson and J. K. Elwell. At the services this afternoon the Rev. Collins read the following sketch of the deceased: Mary A. Moore was born in Harrison County, Ohio, January 10, 1832, and passed to her reward October 30, 1905. She was one of a large family known for their piety and strict adherence to the principles of the Christian faith. While receiving instruction in word and doctrine of the church from childhood, she did not openly confess Christ until later years when she united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Lancaster, Indiana. She was married to Thomas Y. Black in 1852. To this union were born six children, only one of whom still survives her, George E. Black, of Mankato, Minnesota. She with her husband and family came to Story Co., Iowa, in 1856 and endured the hardships incident to the early settlement of the community. She was again married to T. A. Duckworth and moved to Boone County in 1864 and became the mother of four children: Theodore, Belle, Reed and Ralph. The daughter, Belle, preceded her mother to the better world 17 years ago. The husband passed away 11 May 1878. Three step-children survive her, viz: J. F. Duckworth of Trenton, Nebr., Mrs. Elizabeth Whitehouse of Primghar, Iowa and Mrs. Morris Briley of Ames. While always a regular attendant upon the public services of the church, Mrs. Duckworth did not consider this her highest privelege but believed rather that the family and home afforded her a larger sphere and in this capacity served to the end of her life. She was possessed of strong natural vitality but recent years have demonstrated that even the strongest must succumb to age and disease. She has gone to receive the reward of the faithful and await the manifestation of the saints in light. She was faithful in her friendships and all the relations of life and always more mindful of the interests of others than of her own.
