Rough Expires When She Gazes into Face of Departed Husband Niles, Feb. 3.—Entering the room where lay the body of her husband who died a few hours before [on 2 Feb 1914], Mrs. William Rough [i.e., Mary Ann Houseworth] residing near Portage Prairie, gazed upon his face, gasped and dropped dead over the corpse. Physicians declared that grief killed her. She had lived in constant companionship with her spouse for 59 years and the thought of going on without him was too much for the aged woman. Mrs.... Rough Expires When She Gazes into Face of Departed Husband Niles, Feb. 3.—Entering the room where lay the body of her husband who died a few hours before [on 2 Feb 1914], Mrs. William Rough [i.e., Mary Ann Houseworth] residing near Portage Prairie, gazed upon his face, gasped and dropped dead over the corpse. Mrs. Rough was 75 years old and her husband 81. The family is one of the most prominent in this community. A double funeral will be held. For two years Mr. Rough suffered from Bright’s disease, but his condition was not serious until a few days ago. He was born in Snyder County, Pennsylvania, December 25, 1833, and December 25, 1854, was married to Polly Houseworth. The following year they came to this region of Michigan. The couple is survived by nine children: J. Rough, Elkhart, Ind.; Mrs. James Putnam, Plymouth, Ind.; Jeffry M., Jacob E., Percival, William T., and Lewis B. Rough, Mrs. J. B.
