Description	:	Mary Ann "Polly" SHAW was born about 1819 in South Carolina, the daughter of William SHAW and Nancy TUCKER. She married Martin Fralix FREEMAN about 1838 and they lived on a farm a few miles south of Craytonville, Anderson County, SC. The farm was probably very close to the Anderson/Abbeville County Line. Mary Ann died May 7, 1874 at their home. Her burial location is not known for sure, but it is assumed that she was buried at Mount Bethel Baptist Church, because she and her husband were members of that church throughout their married life. At least three... Read More	Mary Ann "Polly" SHAW was born about 1819 in South Carolina, the daughter of William SHAW and Nancy TUCKER. Mary Ann died May 7, 1874 at their home. Her burial location is not known for sure, but it is assumed that she was buried at Mount Bethel Baptist Church, because she and her husband were members of that church throughout their married life. At least three of Mary Ann's siblings are buried at Mount Bethel with surviving grave stones. If Mary Ann had a grave stone, it cannot be found today. After Mary's death, Martin FREEMAN remained a Deacon at Mount Bethel until 1878, when he moved to Oconee County and became a member of Westminster Baptist Church. Mary Ann's Obituary: "It is with regret that we chronicle the sudden death of Mrs. M. F. Freeman, which sad event occurred at her residence a few miles below Craytonville on Thursday evening last. Mrs. Freeman was unwell for some time, but not seriously, and on Thursday after retiring for the night, she got up to procure some water and instantly dropped dead." Published in the Anderson Intelligencer on Thursday, May 14, 1874, page 2, col. 5.
