Christy passed away at midnight, Saturday, December 28, 1912, at the home or her daughter, Mrs. G.H. Wooton. She had been in declining health for quite a while, but particularly during the previous two months. She had been bedfast since Christmas day. Mary A. Porter was born in Ohio, March 1, 1834, and died in Akron, Ia., December 28, 1912, aged 78 years, 9 months and 28 days. She moved with her parents at the age of ten years to Tipton, Iowa, where she lived until eighteen years of age, when they moved to Moline, Illinois. At this place she was married to Robert Christy on August 24, 1856. They later returned to Iowa, living in Wright and Humboldt counties for several years, and then came to Akon in the year 1877. She has lived here most of the time since, except about twelve years which were spent in Arkansas and Nebraska. To them were born five children—A.L. Christy, of San Antonio, Tex.; W.F. Christy, of Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs. Laura Hampton, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Mrs. Nellie Chamberlin, who died at Spokane, Wash., June 12, 1910, and Mrs. G.H. Wooton, of Akron, Iowa. Since the death of her husband about seven years ago she has made her home with her daughter here. She is also survived by two brothers and one sister—Samuel Porter of Webster City, Ia., Wm. K. Porter, of Ewing, Nebr., and Mrs. A.J. McDaniel, of Sioux City, Ia. For over sixty years she lived an ardent and faithful Christian life, which, like her Master's, was one of self-sacrifice and service for others. The last ten years of her life she has been a constant but patient sufferer, and death, which held for her no fear, came as a sweet relief. The community tenders its condolence to the bereaved family. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at her late home, conducted by Elder J.L. Parker, pastor of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, of Omaha, and Rev. R.L. Stuart, pastor of the Akron M.E. church. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery, beside her husband. Relatives who came from a distance were: W.F. Christy and family, of Sioux City; Wm. K. Porter, of Ewing, Nebr.; Mrs. A.J. McDaniel and Mrs. B.D. Swift, of Sioux City.
