Mary Ann Binning must of known Mr. William Hewlett in England, for a short time after arriving in America and settling in Onondaga County, New York, this young adventurous couple were married 12 Sep 1849 in Skaneateles, Onondaga County, New York ,at the age of 19 years, 11 months, Mary Ann Binning married William Hewlett. 1852 about this date, Mary Ann and her husband William Hewlett and 2 small children, daughter Sarah, age 2 and son John Hewlett age 1 year, traveled by covered wagon from New York to Dyersville, Iowa. 09 Jan 1859 in North Fork, Delaware County, Iowa, Mary Ann Binning and William Hewlett's little daughter of 10 months, Tamer A Hewlett passed away. 27 Nov 1862 in North Fork, Delaware County, Iowa, Mary Ann Binning Hewlett's husband of 13 years, William Hewlett passed away. Mary Ann is left a young widow of the age of 32, with 5 little children, the youngest daughter Mary Ann Hewlett only 8 months of age. 11 Sep 1863 in North Fork, Delaware County, Iowa, at the age of 33 Years, 10 Months, 30 Days, Mary Ann Binning Hewlett married William Anstey. William Anstey would help raise her 5 children and 3 more children would bless this family. 1874 in a 24 year span, Mary Ann Binning Hewlett Anstey gave birth to 9 children. She was about 44 years of age with the birth of her daughter Minnie Anstey. 13 Sep 1883 The Journal Newspaper (Leon, Ia) [Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert January 5, 2010 [email protected]] Last Tuesday evening about sixty of the relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs WM. ANSTEY gathered at their residence south of town to celebrate the China wedding of Mr. and Mrs. ANSTEY. The affair was a complete surprise to them, but their friends had come prepared and in a short time tables were spread and ladened with all the good things that man likes, and all were invited to partake freely. It is needless to say that all partook thereof. After all had eaten they gathered in the sitting room to see the knot that was tied twenty years ago re-tied and wound with ties of love and friendship. It does one good in these days of divorces and separations to meet with a couple who have walked hand in hand for so long a time, sharing each other's burden, comforting and sustaining each other through the vicissitudes of life. We trust we may live to assist in celebrating Mr. and Mrs. ANSTEY'S golden wedding. After a hand shake and best wishes for their future happiness the company were entertained with some excellent vocal music. All then left for their homes feeling that they had a good time and with best wishes for Mr. and Mrs. ANSTEY'S future happiness. The following is a list of presents given to the worthy couple by their friends: JOHN HARRIS and wife -- set sauce dishes. R. HULET and wife -- cake stand. H.P. BROTHERS -- handsome lamp. W.W. EVANS and wife -- gold breast pin. JOSEPH BAKER and wife -- two bread plates. J. HULIT and wife -- handsome pitcher. MR. BENNING and wife -- handsome pitcher. LILY BRYANT -- handsome cup. Miss SEELY -- silk gloves. L.D. BOSWORTH & CO. -- fine tea set. JOHN BRYANT -- a beautiful pumpkin. There were several other presents that we did not learn of. ----------------------------------------------------------- 28 Jul 1887 in Grand River, Decatur County, Iowa, Mary Ann Binning Hewlett Anstey's, second husband of 23 years 10 months 16 days, William Anstey, passed away. Mary Ann is once again, left heart broken and a widow for the 2nd time. William Anstey's 5 step children are mature adults, and his 2 sons are young men, but Mary Ann will have to raise their young daughter, Minnie who is only 12 years of age and her special needs daughter Sarah Hewlett, with the help of her family 25 May 1905 The Leon Reporter We are informed by James Treanor, agent of the Farmers Insurance Co., at Kellerton, that H.G. Burr, the adjuster has settled with Mrs. Mary Anstey for loss of her dwelling near Grand River, which was recently destroyed by fire, by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Fred Anstey, who set fire to the house while insane. Mrs. Anstey received a draft for the full amount of her policy, $700. 24 Sep 1906 in Creston, Union County, Iowa, Mary Ann Binning Hewlett Anstey's 3rd child, son Richard Franklin Hewlett passed away and shortly before this time her granddaughter Eva Hewlett Siple also passed away. 10 Aug 1912 News arrives that Mary Ann Binning Hewlett Anstey, granddaughter Helen Anstey died in Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado 29 May 1914 in Richland Township, Decatur County, Mary Ann Binning Hewlett Anstey baby, her 9th child, daughter Minnie May Anstey Millard lost her 2nd child in infancy, Robert James Millard. Just a few years before granddaughter Edith Mae Millard passed away in fancy 19 Feb 1915 in Richland, Decatur County, Iowa, at the age of 85 Years, 4 Months, 7 Days, Mary Ann Binning Hewlett Anstey passed away. The former Mary Ann Binning, was born and educated in Wedmore, Somersetshire, England. Her parents were Joan Wall and Jeffrey Binning. As a young women, at the age of 18 years, she left her family and friends and traveled to New York state, where she married William Hewlett. Mary Ann Binning's brother George also came in 1848 and settle in Wisconsin. A few years latter her older sister Sarah Elizabeth Binning and younger brothers Jeffrey & Henry Binning would make the same journey by ship in1850. Brother Charles Binning and sister Betsy Elizabeth Binning Bryant and family, would arrive in 1866, brother Lot Binning would join his Binning siblings decades later in 1880. This pioneer woman who has lived in America for over 67 years, the last 35 years in Decatur County, Iowa, was a devoted wife, loving mother, sister & grandmother. She leaves a wide circle of friends and family. Preceded in death, by her parents, two husbands, William Hewlett & William Anstey, daughter, Tamer A Hewlett and son Richard Hewlett. grandchildren: Arthur & Anna Belle Hewlett, Eva Hewlett Siple, Ella Marea Hewlett & Mary "Helen" Anstey. brothers: George Binning, Wisconsin, Jeffrey, Henry & Lot Binning, Iowa Those left to honor her memory, daughters: Sarah Jane Hewlett, "Annie" Hewlett Harris, Mary Ann Hewlett Evans, Minnie May Anstey Millard, sons: John Hewlett, Fredrick & William Anstey. sisters: Sarah Elizabeth Binning Baker & Betsy Elizabeth Binning Bryant and brother Charles H Binning. Also numerous grandchildren, nieces & nephews. She was laid to rest by her second husband William Anstey in Oak Hill Cemetery, Grand River, Decatur County, Iowa.
