Cooper, Ash Valley, Kas., Mrs. Annvilla (Aurilla) Ainsworth, in the 62d year of her age. Mrs. A. was a sincere Christian, a devoted wife and loving mother. For years she had known what affliction was, but she bore it all with Christian resignation, believing that all things work for good to those who love God. It always seemed to me, and was frequently remarked by her neighbors, that she lived in a higher atmosphere, above the conflicts and troubles of earth. Her husband, two sons, a daughter and five grandchildren, for whom she cared so tenderly during the past five or six years, will sadly miss one who taught them by example and precept to look above this world for true happiness. In November she was at our house, so talkative and cheerful a stranger would have thought she knew little of trouble; but alas, her cup of affliction has been full to the brim many, many times. On this November day, going home from Larned, she took cold, which settled in her lungs. For four months she bore her sufferings without a murmur. The last month she was speechless, but in her right mind most of the time. Her sorrowing husband said to me: "O, if Ma could only have talked to me in her last moments I could have given her up more resignedly." The friends of her girlhood and young womanhood away among the green mountains of Vermont, will shed a silent tear when they learn that their friend and councellor has fallen, and fallen so far from her native home. Those who knew and loved her in her older day in Lee and Henry county, Iowa will say: " A Christian has gone to swell the angelic throng, far away from trouble and pain." When young, Mrs. Ainsworth chose to suffer affliction with the children of God, rather than enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season, and united with the Congregational Church, but after coming to Iowa, in 1856 or 1857, she united with the Methodist Church. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Rich, pastor of the Methodist Church in Larned. He chose as his text the 11th chapter of St. John, 23d verse: "Jesus saith unto her, "thy brother shall rise again," and 1st Corinthians, 15th chapter, 52d verse; " In a moment, in a twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
