The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. Mrs. Baumgardner died on Saturday, May 17, 2014. Born April 28, 1921, in her family home on Tom Hall Street, Mary was the daughter of the late Walter Taylor Barron Sr. and Olive Harris Barron. She was educated in the Fort Mill schools and attended Winthrop College. She worked in the Fort Mill Post Office for 35 years. Active in many organizations in the area, Mary volunteered for the American Red Cross and was a blood donor for over 50 years. She was a volunteer at the Fort Mill Care Center. Mary was a member of the American Legion Auxilary, the Daughters of the American Revolution and Leroy Springs Senior Citizens. At Saint John's United Methodist Church, she was a circle chairman, taught Sunday School, played in the handbell choir and sang in the choir until age 90. Upon her retirement from the post office, Mary traveled widely for years. She was also a member of a duplicate bridge club and a square dance team. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter "Dub" McFadden and Glenn Baumgardner; and nephew, Walter Taylor Barron III. She is survived by her brothers, Walter Taylor Barron Jr. of Camden, S.C., and William Harris Barron (Patty) of Fort Mill; and first cousin, Esther Cambron of Peoria, Ariz. Mary was the foster mother to Felice Petricca of Monteflavio, Italy. She was fondly known as "Mimi" by her nieces, nephew, great-nieces, great-nephew and neighborhood children. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Saint John's United Methodist Church, 130 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.The Herald News Paper
