Funeral arrangements have not been completed, awaiting word from sons in Minnesota, Oklahoma an (sic) dColorado (sic). However, it is expected to be held either Friday or Saturday morning. Madison, Iowa, in 1853, and passed away at her home in St. Stephens precinct, Nebraska, December 18, 1929, aged 76 years. She had been active in taking care of the home until a few days before her death, which was caused by erysipelas, and was ill only a short time. She was married to Henry Menke at Ft. Madison, Iowa, in 1875 and with him some years later moved to Nebraska, settling on the farm about 2 1/2 miles southeast of Lawrence. Eighteen years ago they retired to their home in St. Stephens, where she resided until her death. The husband, Henry Menke, although past eighty years of age, survives and the loss is a severe one to him. One daughter, Mrs. John Vercamp passed away in 1922 at Ferdinand, Indiana, while five sons and four daughters survive. They are Val of Postville, Iowa; Anton of Des Palos, California; Joseph of Wolf Creek, Wisconsin; Frank of Stratton, Colorado; Theodore of Goltry, Oklahoma; Mrs. Ben Hackman of Hastings, Nebr.; and Mrs. Barbara Heil, Mrs. Chris Mertens, and Miss Anna Menke all of Lawrence. Two sisters, Mrs. Casper Venhaus of Lawrence and Mrs. Frank Venhaus of Kansas City, Kansas, also mourn her passing. Funeral services were held in St. Stephens Catholic church last Saturday morning, conducted by Rev. A. Hahn, and burial took place in the St. Stephens cemetery.
