Description	:	SPALDING — Mary Catherine “Marie” Naughtin, 89, of Spalding passed away Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at Boone County Health Center in Albion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael’s Church in Spalding, with the Rev. Antony Thekkekara officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Dolce-Scheef Mortuary in Spalding is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Naughtin was born March 5, 1926, at Spalding, the daughter of Walter William and Helen Sophia (Berger) Zahm. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding. She received her elementary education at country school in Greeley County, south of Spalding, and graduated from Spalding High School in 1942. She received Normal Training at Wayne State College, and taught country school at Troy Valley and north of Spalding. Marie spent a short time working in California before returning to Spalding, where she was united in marriage to John “Budge” Naughtin on Aug. 31, 1946, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding. They farmed north of Greeley until 1961, when they moved to a farm southwest of Spalding. In 1963 they bought Spalding Creamery and Locker and operated it until 1983. Marie started a day care in 1964 and operated it until 1979. Marie then worked at the nursing home in Spalding until she retired in 2004. Marie was a caregiver to people of all ages, especially caring for the young and old. During these years, Budge worked for People’s Service. He passed away in July of 2011. Marie was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and St. Anne’s Altar Society. She loved gardening, canning, people of all ages, her children, grandchildren and most of all, Budge. Surviving Marie are her children: Ed Naughtin and special friend, Cheryl Lockett, of Primrose, Bill (Ann) Naughtin of Northville, Mich., Jim (Lorie) Naughtin of Columbus, Gina (John) Molczyk of Spalding, Peg (Jeff) Burns of Burwell; 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim (Wilma) Zahm of Grand Island; a sister-in-law, Virginia Zahm of Omaha; along with many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Budge; a sister, Angela; a brother, Bill; and two granddaughters, Shawn and Carrie.
