Her husband, also one son, Owen, preceded her several years ago. The surviving children are: John, who is principal in the High School in Spaulding, Mrs. Tom Flynn and Miss Margaret of Center. There are thirteen grandchildren, also one brother at Bennett, Illinois, and one sister at Amhurst, Nebraska. Mrs. O'Keefe had been in poor health for many years, suffering from heart trouble with complications. Deceased, together with her husband were early pioneers of Butler county, coming here fifty-seven years ago and in common with her neighbors at that time, among them the Mahoney and Powers families withstood any privations and hardships incident to those days of which the younger generation know not. By her noble example of fortitude and patience under trials, coupled with an optimistic nature, she was dearly beloved by all who knew her and all regret to learn of her going although when the reaper of death called he found the wheat ripe for the harvest. A good woman has gone to her reward and her loved ones are assured of the condolence of their many friends in their sorrow. Funeral services were held in the Catholic church at Center, on Tuesday, December 28, when a solemn requiem High mass was celebrated for the repose of her soul. Mrs. O'Keefe's pastor Fr. O'Sullivan was the celebrant of the mass and gave the sermon; Fr. Loughran acted as deacon; while Rev. Fr. Mock, of the Valley was sub-deacon. In the temporary absence of the organist, Mrs. Lawrence Lambe of Ulysses officiated together with Mrs. Charles Leppert and son, Francis, of Omaha, also John Powers of Ulysses in the rendition of the music. A large number of old friends and neighbors were in attendance. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery at David City, by the side of her loved ones. MARY KEEFE She Died at Home of Her Daughter in Center Township. (Written for Last Week.) Mrs. Mary Keefe, resident of Butler county for some 55 years and of David City, for the past 26 years, did at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Flynn, in Center Township, on December 25, 1926. Her death was from heart trouble. She had been ill six weeks. She was in her 83d year. Funeral servics for Mrs. Keefe were held at St. Francis church, Center township, with Reqieum High Mass at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28. Rev. Father O'Sullivan was celebrant, Rev. Father Loughran deacon and Rev. Father Mock sub-deacon. Charles Leport and son, Francis, of Omaha and Mrs. Lambe and John Powers of Ulysses sang two hymns, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Lead Kindly Light," and the Requiem High Mass. David, Michael, Leo and Thomas Flynn and Daniel and John Keefe, grandsons of Mrs. Keefe, were the pallbearers. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery, David City. In attendance at the funeral from elsewhere were M. C. Curry and two daughters, Mary and Tecla, and Mrs. Anne Luker from Bement, Ill., James P. Mahoney and family, John Mahoney and family and William Beckman and family from Palmyra, Charles Leport and family from Omaha, Daniel Powers and family from Ulysses and John and Patrick Kaveney from Linwood. Mary Curry was Mrs. Keefe's maiden name. She was born in County Clare, Ireland, in May, 1844, coming to America in girlhood. She was married to Daniel Keefe at Bement, Ill., in 1867. They moved to a farm in Butler county, Nebraska in 1872, residing there until moving to David City in 1906. Mr. Keefe passed away in 1911. Four children, two sons and two daughters, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Keefe. One son, O. F. Keefe, has passed on. The surviving children are J. J. Keefe of David City, Mrs. Thomas Flynn of Brainard adn Miss Maggie Keefe of Omaha. Mrs. Keefe is also survived by one brother and one sister, M. C. Curry and Mrs. Anne Luker of Bement, Ill., and a niece, Mrs. George Aleven, of David City. Mrs. Keefe was a long-time member of the Catholic church.
