Georgetown county has suffered an irreparable loss in the death of Mrs E Marion Doar Sr who for 18 ears was the Home Demonstration Agent. "Miss Minnie" was known and loved by everyone in this section. She had that rare combination of a keen mind and vivid personality with the high courage that make leaders of me. Her forceful character had its effect on all who came in contact with her. Born October 1873 she was the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs James F Detyens of Georgetown. She was graduated with the second class to finish Winthrop college in 189. In 1894 she was married to Elias Marion Doar of Georgetown. Three children of this union with her husband survive. They are EM Doar Jr of Georgetown Mrs JR McCracken of Waynesville NC LH Doar of Kingstree. Two daughters Mrs McKnight and Mrs Frank Connor preceded her to the grave. In her home her high ideals and ambition made her a wonderful mother. Two nieces Mrs EF Harrelson of Franklin Tenn and Mrs Marshall Duval of Richmond Va were taken into her home and reared as her daughters. These with several grandchildren and one brother, HW Detyens of Charleston also survive. In 1917 she become Georgetown's Home Demonstration agent. Her work brought her in contact with many women. To her the rural women own a debt of gratitude. She helped them to improve living conditions and to a broader outlook. Her Curb Market gave them a source of personal income. Although for the last year she has been unable to be on active duty she still planned the work and her interest in it never failed. Mrs LI Landrum State Leader of Demonstration Work and Mrs SO Plowden District Leader with other state and county agents were in attendance at the funeral services. Death came Friday June 28 after a long and painful illness. Funeral services were held in the Church of Prince George Winyah (Episcopal) of which she was a devoted member with her rector the Rev HD Bull officiating. The interment was in Elmwood Cemetery. The many beautiful floral offerings attested to her popularity. Pall bearers were WW Doar James Johnson WL Fraser LT Easley JL Bull Jr Louis Overton, Russell Davis of Waccamaw and TR Kirby of Andrews.
