Thompson Saturday in Homer, occurred the death of Mrs. Mary E. Thompson, a pioneer resident of this county, aged 76 years, lacking two days. Mary Elizabeth DeWitt was born in Louis county, Kentucky Aug. 25, 1837. The family moved to Carter county when she was ten years of age. In 1856 she was married to J.H. Thompson and in 1858 Mr. and Mrs. Thompson moved to Webster county, Iowa. In 1869 they moved into Hamilton county in the vicinity where they had made their home during all the 44 years that have intervened. The husband died thirteen years ago and Mrs. Thompson had been in poor health for some time of troubles incident to old age. Interment was made in Oakwood cemetery at Stratford. Eight children had been born to Mr. and Mrs. Thompson of whom five survive as follows: J.A. Thompson of Homer Rebecca A. Stevenson of Kingsley, Iowa Archie Thompson of Stratford Bertha Fisher of Ashmore, Montana Myra Page of Stratford Having lived so many years about Homer, Mrs. Thompson had a wide circle of acquaintances and warm personal friends over southeastern Hamilton county. She was known to all as a good Christian woman in all the walks of life and in her passing the sympathy of hosts of friends is extended to the surviving children in the loss of so dear a relative as mother. Stratford Courier September 4, 1913 Obituary Died, at the home of J.W. Thompson in Homer, Iowa, August 24, 1913, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Thompson, aged 76 years, 11 months and 29 days. Mrs. Thompson was born in Lewis county, Kentucky, August 24, 1836. She came to Iowa in 1858 and with her husband settled in Webster county. After several years they moved to Hamilton county, where they made their continuous home till their death. The husband John W. Thompson, passed away Jan. 5, 1900. They were the parents of eight children, five of whom are still living - namely, Archie Thompson and Myra Page of Stratford, Bertha Fisher of Montana, J.H. Thompson and Rebecca A. Stephenson of Kingsley, Iowa. Mrs. Thompson was converted and joined the Methodist church when a child and has lived a consistent Christian life. Her devotion to her family was great, and as a wife and mother could not be excelled. The funeral was conducted by Rev. S.S. Eslick and the remains laid to rest in the Oakwood cemetery to await the resurrection morn.
