Read More	The Harvard Courier (Harvard, NE), Thursday, August 7, 1969; pg. 2 SUTTON — Obituary - Stevens — Mary Elizatbeth (sic) Ely Stevens, daughter of Daniel and Susan Ely, was born In Filmore county (sic) on July 9, 1890 and departed this life at the Sutton Community Home on Tuesday, July 29, 1988 at the age of 79 years. She was united in marriage to Harry Stevens on November 5, 1915. To this union five children were born. Mrs. Stevens was a lifelong resident of this community. In 1908 she moved to Sutton and has lived in the same house until she moved to the Community Home in January. She became a member of the local Methodist Church in 1914. She was also an active member of the Women's Fellowship and Circles. In September of this year she would have been a 50 year member of the Federation. Some of her greatest joys in life were experienced in working for the church and Its charitable endeavors. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Zelma, six brothers and three sisters. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Lillie Ebert of the Sutton Community Home; 1 daughter, Iris, Mrs. Gerhardt Wiard of Sutton; three sons, Merle and Cleo of Sutton and James of Ada, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; one great grandchild; other relatives and friends. As a mother and community member, Mrs. Stevens was compassionately considerate of others and concerned for their well-being. Among the virtues of life she prized honesty above all. Funeral services were held at the Sutton Federated Church Thursday afternoon, July 30, with Rev. Walter Bailey in charge. Shirley Syring and Donna Bauer sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "How Great Thou Art." Mrs. Betty Barbra was organist. Interment was in Sutton cemetery (sic). Acting as bearers were Milton, Floyd and Earl Ely, LeRoy Cronin, Reuben Bachmann and Wesley Salmen.
