On March 7, 1841, she married in Mechanicstown to Johann Gottlieb Sigmund, son of immigrants Christian and Maria Dorothea Schwarz Sigmund, who left Sindelfingen, Germany, in 1817 and immigrated to Pennsylvania. Johann Gottlieb and Mary Elizabeth Firor Sigmund were the parents of 9 children: Frederick Firor, Maria Dorothea, William Gottlieb, Lewis, Malinda, Emma Alice, Amanda Elizabeth, Mathias Christian and Comfort Sigmund. Birth and Baptism Certificate (Taufschein or Fraktur) for Maria Elisabetha Firor: "To these two married people, Daniel Firor and his wedded wife, born Margaretha Martin, a daughter was born into the world, in the year of our Lord 1816, the 6th day of March. She was born in Maryland, in Frederick County, North America, and was baptized with the name Maria Elisabetha the 21st day of April, 1816. Sponsors were Henrich Firor and his wedded wife, Anna Maria." --The taufschein is in the possession of Gregg D. Freese, Takoma Park, Maryland. It had been passed down to Emma Alice Sigmund Martin, who gave it to her grandson, Maynard Kenneth Freese (my uncle). It came into my possession after his only child, Timothy Freese, died in Baltimore 1985. Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Firor Sigmund from the Catoctin Clarion of January 21, 1892: "DEATH OF MRS. MARY E. SIGMUND--This estimable lady, the wife of our esteemed townsman, Mr. G. J. Sigmund, died at her home on W. Main-st, on Thursday last, after a brief illness, a complication of rheumatism and severe cold. Mary Elizabeth Firor was one of seven children of Daniel and Margaret Firor, two of whom survive her: J. Levi Firor of Fairfield, Pa., and David S. Firor of this place, Augustus Firor, Barbara Troxell, Susan Warrenfeltz and Martin D. Firor preceeded her to the grave. She was the mother of nine children, six of whom survive her: viz. Mr. Wm. G. and Miss Malinda Sigmund of this place; Matthias C. and Comfort Sigmund of Reading, Pa., Amanda E. Staub of near Woodsboro and Emma A. Martin of Myersville. She leaves fifteen grand-children and four are dead. She and G. J. Sigmund were married on March 7, 1841, or more than fifty years ago. She was a consistent member of the Reformed church, kindly and of industrious habits. Rev. Geo. A. Whitmore, assisted by Rev. Jno. H. Barb officiated at the funeral ceremonies."
