Rieck, Sunday, July 15, 1934, after a painful and protracted illness, which she bore with the most exemplary patience and Christian fortitude. Mary Elizabeth Patterson was born in the Parish of Clontibret, county of Monaghan, Ireland, August 12, 1851, and died at Lewellen, Nebr., July 15, 1934, at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 3 days. She was united in marriage to Robert G. Roberts on February 17, 1875, at Fremont, Nebr. They moved to Boone county on a homestead, where she passed through the trials common to pioneer life, which called for determination and courage. Her life was one of service to her family and community. She was never too busy to answer the call of the sick and needy, and her wish was to instill the minds of her children the desire for the better things of life. She was always ready to make every sacrifice to add to their happiness. Hence, it may be truthfully said, a good mother is gone. Mrs. Roberts was a member of Clontibret Presbyterian church since girlhood and she was a faithful worker up to her last illness. She leaves to mourn her death nine children: John and Walter Roberts of North Platte; Griffith and Frank of Portland, Ore.; George of Chadron; Robert of Oakland, Calif.; Osbourne Roberts, Mrs. Marie Hitchens and Mrs. Jennette Rieck of Lewellen. One son, Will Roberts, died in November 1932. Her husband also passed away several years ago while he and his wife were making their home on the west coast. One brother, Osbourne Patterson of Omaha; one sister, Mrs. Rachel G. Kinner of Primrose, Nebr.; twenty-four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many other relatives and a host of friends survive. At the close of such a life it is fitting to quote the triumphant words of Paul, which she loved to repeat: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love is appearing." Funeral services were held from the Lutheran church in Lewellen at 2:00 o'clock last Wednesday afternoon, and burial was made in the Ash Hollow cemetery. I. W. Wright of this city was in charge of arrangements and the funeral sermon was delivered by Rev. Nielsen, pastor of the Lutheran church of Lewellen.
