Roberts passed away at the Oshkosh Community hospital where he had been a patient at various times during the past year or more. Nothing that could be done seemed to stay his gradual decline and death came to end his suffering last week. For many years he served as sheriff of the county and prior to that time had been engaged in farming, stock raising and real estate. Osborne Ritchie Roberts born October 26, 1887 at Greeley, Nebraska, [editor: the son of Robert G. and Mary Elizabeth (Patterson) Roberts] and passed away at the hospital Wednesday, September 16, 1964, at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 20 days. He had come to Garden county in 1912 and had filed on a Kincaid homestead and had engaged in farming and real estate business for several years. He was married September 24, 1914, to Miss Irene Paisley at North Platte. Three sons and two daughters blessed this union. In 1946 he was elected sheriff of this county and continued as the county officer 14 years, retiring in 1960. He remained a resident of the city during the rest of his life. Left to mourn Mr. Robert's passing are his wife Irene; three sons, William D. and Ritchie O., living in Denver, and Robert P. residing in Englewood, Colorado; two daughters, Mrs. Don LeSeur [editor: Bonnie J.] of Littleton, Colorado, and Mrs. John E. Schoneberg [editor: Audree I.] of Lewellen. Also 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive. He leaves two brothers, John P. of North Platte and Frank A. of Portland, Oregon, and his many friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Holechek Funeral home Saturday, September 19 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. David T. Gustafson, assisted by Rev. Duane L. Knierim, officiating. Burial was in the Ash Hollow cemetery. Honaray pallbearers were A. O. Patrick, R. R. Haddix, C. M. MIller and Everett McCormick. Active pallbearers were Jess Williams, Frank O. Robinson, William Petty, William Hines, Bruce Eddy and Leo Applegate.
