D. Strain died at the family home three miles northwest of Villisca, Saturday morning, November 10 at about eleven o’clock. The deceased was 57 years, 10 months, and 19 days of age at the time of her death. The funeral services were conducted from the home Monday afternoon. At that time there were an unusually large number of relatives and friends present to pay their last respects to the deceased. Rev. E. S. Menoher had charged of the services and burial was made in the Villisca Cemetery. Mary Elizabeth Rains was born near Rainsborough, Highland County, Ohio, January 29, 1860. She came to Iowa with her parents, George Washington Rains and Margaret Ann Carder, when a child of four years and grew to womanhood on her father’s farm in Adams County, six miles northeast of Villisca. She was married to Andrew D. Strain on April 6, 1882. To this union were born two children, Ratio Strain of Tina, Missouri and Leonard Stain of Villisca. She became a member of the M. E. Church of Nodaway, Iowa, about 25 years ago and continuously held her membership with that church. She leaves to mourn the loss, besides her husband and children, four grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. J. H. Farlin of Spencer, Nebraska and three brothers, Marion G. Rains of Ponca, Nebraska; John Rains of Manville, Wyoming, and Charles W. Rains of Alliance, Nebraska. One sister, Mrs. P. W. Howard preceded her in death 28 years ago.
