The matter was recently brought to the attention of Mr. Hoover. Mrs. Brown is well known in Frederick. Obituary Frederick News Post - February 11, 1929 Mrs. Mary E. Brown, believed to be the oldest person in Montgomery County, died Friday night at her home in Barnesville, Montgomery County. On October [10], she celebrated the one hundredth anniversary of her birth. Until a few months ago, she was in excellent health, attending to her household duties,mingling with her neighbors and taking a lively interest in current events. She was a lifelong Republican and is believed to have been the oldest woman in the United States to cast her vote for President-elect Herbert Hoover. When Mr. Hoover was apprised of the fact a few days ago, he sent her an autographed photograph of himself and a note of appreciation and respect. Mrs. Brown was the widow of John W. Brown and was a lifelong resident of the Barnesville neighborhood. She is survived by a daughter, Miss Sallie E. Brown, of Barnesville, and was the grandmother of Mrs. Mary E. Peddicord, of Howard County, and William C. and Hatton D. Brown, of Barnesville. Funeral at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the home, burial in Monocacy Cemetery at Beallsville. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Episcopal church and until a few years ago was active in religious work.
