Ogilvie were greatly shocked to learn on Wednesday evening last of her sudden and unexpected death which occourred at 936 West Main Street, Staunton, the home of her sister, Mrs. L.A. Caricoffe. So unexpected was the summons that even the members of the immediate household were dazed with surprise and grief. Mrs. Ogilvie was suffering with a deep cold and slight attack of laryngitis, but there was apparently no occasion for alarm. A few hours before death bronchial pneumonia set up and at the very outset of this more serious turn in her illness, heart failure followed and quickly determlned the issue, her physician hurriedly summoned and arriving shortly before death, failing to get any response even to the strongest stimulants. Mrs. Ogilvie was born in Monterey October 12, 1858, the daughter of the late Thomas H. & Margaret C. Slaven and the major part of her life was spent here. Of her father’s large family she was the second to pass away during the year just closed, and leaves the following brothers and sisters: Harry F. & Howard M. Slaven, of Monterey, Mrs. L. A. Caricoffe, of Staunton, Mrs. A.W. Reynolds and Miss May Slaven, of Princeton, W.Va. She was married in 1876 and was the mother of nine children, all of whom lived to appreciate her worth and affection as a mother, but one, Mary Lizzie, dying in 1905. The surviving children are F.E. Ogilvie, of Charlottesville, Mrs. R.A. Hunn, of Louisville, Ky., John L. Ogilvie, of Falls Church, Va., James J. Ogilvie, of Detroit, Mich., Dr. Hanson S. Ogilvie New York City, Thomas Ogilvie, of Atlantic City and Mrs. W.D. Wade of Staunton. Prior to last fall Mrs, Ogilvie had been a resident of Monterey for some time, and she was of that disposition and temperament that won for her lasting friendships wherever she was known. Highland Recorder March 3, 1911 Mr. James J. Ogilvie has sold the T. H. Slaven home to Mr. W. H. Lunsford, and Mrs. Ogilvie will go to Albemarle County. She and her son. Mr. F. A. Ogilvie, have purchased jointly a fruit farm near Crozet, and both will move there during the present month. Mrs. Ogilvie, who has resided here for several years, has many friends who will regret to see her leave.
