Description	:	The death of Mrs. Elizabeth Cole took place at the Methodist hospital at Indianapolis Saturday night at 11:45 o'clock. She underwent an operation Friday afternoon for a tumor and her condition was that it was known she could only live a short time. Read More	The death of Mrs. Elizabeth Cole took place at the Methodist hospital at Indianapolis Saturday night at 11:45 o'clock. She underwent an operation Friday afternoon for a tumor and her condition was that it was known she could only live a short time. Death came as a release from many weeks of intense suffering caused by a cancerous condition of the stomach. When her condition became so serious a few days ago she was taken to the hospital for an operation in hopes that it might help her condition. While her case had been diagnosed as cancer, it was hoped that the disease had not become deep seated enough to prevent recovery. But worse conditions were found than anticipated and only temporary relief could be given her. The body was returned to the house on West Madison street Sunday. The funeral services will be conducted Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Presbyterian church and Kev Homer Campbell, of Thorntown, former Tipton pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview. Mrs. Cole was the daughter of the late John D. and Phebe Smith and was born in Tipton county Oct. 6, 1855, and was 68 years old. She resided continuously in the county and had been a resident of Tipton nearly twenty years, having moved here from the farm after her husband's death. She was married to Hull B. Cole, on February 11, 1875, and they resided in the vicinity of Normanda for two years, later moving to the Cole farm where the husband died November 9, 1895, Mrs. Cole continued on the farm until 1904 when she moved to this city, occupying property in South Conde street and later she built the present cozy home at 116 West Madison street. Mrs. Cole's untiring service, sacrifice and efforts for others won her hosts of devoted friends. These characteristics made it only natural that she should express a hope during her sickness that there should not be many flowers at the funeral. She said that it would be better to give the flowers to the sick or the equivalent to charity. She is survived by two sons and a daughter, C. W. Cole, of Indianapolis; Will Cole, of Merced, California, and Mrs. John Teal, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin There are eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is also survive by four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Laura Martz, west of Tipton; Mrs. Jessie Nash, of Peru; Mrs. Sade Campbell, of Normanda; and Mrs. Nan VanBirskirk, of Blue Mound Kansas, and W. E. McFarland, of Tipton; and a large number of other relatives, nieces and nephews to whom her home had always been an open house for them when in Tipton. She had a very large circle of friends both in Tipton and in the neighborhood of her former home west of Tipton. She was a member of the Presbyterian church from early girlhood and had kept her faith in her daily life. Her death is a loss to the community and she will be greatly missed.
