Mrs. Clifford died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alta Haggard, Tuesday afternoon. She had been there 8 weeks and had been in poor health for the past two years. Mrs. Clifford was one of the real pioneers of this community, coming to the county 70 years ago and a resident of Coon Rapids for nearly 40 years. For many years she lived in her home in the north part of town and only when her health failed would she permit her daughters to care for her. She was loved by all and will be missed by friends who were dear to her. The obituary, read at the services follows: Mary Elizabeth Wallen, daughter of Pierson and Martha Wallen was born November 23, 1864 on a farm near Marshalltown. She passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs . Alta Haggard April 15, 1952 at the age of 88 years 4 months and 22 days. On December 17, 1882 she was united in marriage to Charles Dennis Clifford. In March 1883 they moved to Carroll county making their home on farms near Dedham and Glidden, later moving to a farm in Audubon county where they made their home until 1913 when they moved to Coon Rapids. To this union nine children were born, two dying in infancy and Clarence who died while in the service of his country in 1918. Her husband preceded her in death October 30, 1928. Surviving her are three daughters, Mrs. Alta Haggard, Mrs. Flora Barrett and Mrs. Lenora Textor all of Coon Rapids, and three sons, Joe of Coon Rapids, Hermes of Ames and Elmer of Spencer, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and two brothers Fred and Harry Wallen of Marshalltown. She was a member of the Methodist church and a Gold Star Mother of the American Legion Auxiliary.
