PETER'S CHURCH One of Somerset county's most esteemed citizens, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Coulbourn, widow of the late John W. Coulbourn, of the Mariner's section, passed away on Monday of this week at her home near Hopewell. Death was the result of complications. Mrs. Coulbourn, daughter of the late John S. Ward and Elizabeth Holland Ward, was eighty years of age, having been born in 1860. Practically her entire long and useful life had been spent in this county, where she was known and loved by hundreds of warm friends. For several years she had been in failing health and for the past three weeks had been confined to her bed. Mrs. Coulbourn was a remarkable woman and despite her advanced years and poor health she was able to remain cheerful, never uttering words of complaint or expressing regret over her failing health. She accepted her illness with real Christian fortitude, for hers was a fine Christian character. Her God and His Word as spoken in the Bible, which she read and reread many times, was her comfort in her days of sore distress and she remained ever firm in her convictions. Even during the final days of her illness Mrs. Coulbourn greeted those who came to call, and there were many who visited with her, with a warm smile and a firm hand clasp. She was ready to go and seemed to be waiting patiently for that moment when she would be called to cross the Great Beyond. She had innumerable splendid traits of all. No better mother, wife, neighbor or friend than Mrs. Coulbourn could be found and those of her acquaintance who found life's way hard were able to find comfort and solace in the words of wisdom and advice which she gave. Mrs. Coulbourn was first married to the late John W. Gillette and her surviving children are of this marriage. Surviving children are Ernest Gillette, a prominent Baltimore City merchant, William S. Gillette, an engineer on the Baltimore and Ohio passenger train, which runs between Baltimore and Washington, since 1905, and Mrs. James Coulbourn, Mrs. Saul T. Bradshaw and Mrs. Everett Bradshaw, all of whom reside near Hopewell. Nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. The funeral services, which were largely attended, were conducted from St. Peter's Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Robert H. Wilson officiated. Interment was in the Sunnyridge Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers included William Bradshaw, Everett Bradshaw, Jr., Ernest Bradshaw, Royce Bradshaw, Herbert Holland, Jr. and Jessie L. Long.
