October 26, 1986 ******** Alton Democrat; February 17, 1949 Funeral services for 82 year old Mary Murphy Henrich, wife of E. S. Henrich, were held Saturday morning Feb. 12, at St. Mary's church. Mrs. Henrich died at her home in Alton Thursday Feb. 10th after an illness of several months. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery. Mrs. Henrich, who resided here for forty-eight years, was born Dec. 14, 1866 at Juneau, Wis., the daughter of Jeremiah and Mary Murphy. Her father was a veteran of the Civil War. Edward S. Henrich and Mary Murphy were united in marriage at Hurley, S. Dak., Sept. 4, 1888. Since the major part of her married life was spent in Alton, Mrs. Henrich was long identified with the social and cultural life of the community. Devoted to her home and family, and her church, she took time for many outside activities, was especially interested in the young people of the community where her home was a center of hospitality. She was loved by many friends for her gentleness and tact and many other fine qualities. Survivors include the widower and five children: Mrs. J. J. Dolan, Beresford, S. Dak.; Frank E., Lennox, S. Dak.; Mrs. Phil. C. Hoffman, Oscar S., George W., all of Alton; and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Countryman and Mrs. Gertrude List. A grandchild, Mary Ellen Henrich, preceded Mrs. Henrich in death. There are eighteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren to mourn the passing of a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
