She had been ailing for several months, but was up and about the house until she entered the hospital a few days before she died. Mary Ellen Gorman was born on a farm near Ulysses on March 30, 1880, were she lived with her parents, brothers and sisters and attended school at Salem. On May 1, 1900, she was married at the Catholic Cathedral in Lincoln to William Schneberger who survives her. They then began farming on their own farm four miles northwest of Staplehurst where they lived until 1932 when they moved to Broken Bow. In 1943 they moved to their present home in Lincoln. Three children were born to them: Joseph of Beaver Crossing; Raymond of Garland and Gertrude Welsh, deceased. When their daughter Gertrude passed away she left a daughter JoAnn Welsch, whom the grandparents took into their home and reared as their own, bestowing on her the same love and affection as on their own children. Now little JoAnn grieves for Grandma. She hardly knows what to do. When relatives ask her to “Come live with them” she says, “Not unless Grandpa comes too.” Besides her husband, two sons and JoAnn she leaves six other grandchildren, one of whom, Donald Schneberger of Garland, joined the navy and is now overseas at Pearl Harbor. Deceased also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Nora Considine of Billings, Mont., Mrs. Anna Graham of Norfolk and Mrs. Francis Austin of Bremerton, Wash., and three brothers, John Gorman of Wheatland, Leo Gorman of Seward, and Charles Gorman of Kenwick, Washington. The pallbearers were Robert Schneberger, Eugene Schneberger, Cletus Reinmiller, Otto Reinmiller, James Schneberger and Edgar Graham. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were her sisters, Mrs. Considine and Mrs. Austin; her brothers, John Gorman of Wheatland, Wyo., and Leo of Seward; a nephew, Glen Gorman of Guernsey, Wyo., a nephew, Edgar Graham of Indianapolis, Ind.; James Schneberger of Dayton, Ohio, and several from Beaver Crossing, York, and McCool. She was a fond wife and mother and a kind friend to all. She was never too busy with her own work to lend a hand to a neighbor who was sick or in distress. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Father Downey at the Ulysses Catholic church on Wednesday, Dec. 29, and the remains were laid to rest by the side of her daughter Gertrude in the Catholic cemetery at Ulysses.
