She had not been in the best of health since a fall which dates back to almost a year ago. Mrs. Ambs was Mary Frances Happe before her marriage and was born in West Prussia, Germany, Janary 11, 1852. She came to America when 17 years of age and located in Chicago. On May 6, 1873, she was married to John Ambs. Most of their married life was spent in Carroll where Mr. Ambs died sixteen years ago. Mrs Ambs was a home woman devoted to her family and its interests. Of the ten children born to Mr. and Mrs. Ambs, one son, George died in infancy. The remaining children are: John C Ambs, of Greensburg, Pa.; Mrs. G.F. Bentley, of Boone; Fred N. Ambs, of Dubuque; Frank Ambs, of Omaha; Mrs. Herman Scherping, of Mason City; Mrs George Moshier, of Chadron, Neb.; Mrs. Ray Kimbler, of Waterloo; Mrs Fred Lyons, of Madison, Wis.; and Mrs. Byron Butcher, of Carroll, who with her husband and little daughter, made her home with her mother. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the residence Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. F.G. Codd officiated. Mrs. C.C. Colclo and Miss Aimee Hodge sang several hymns. Interment was made in the Carroll cemetery.
