Description	:	THE SIDNEY ARGUS-HERALD February 12, 1931 "A PIONEER AT REST".--Mary Frances Yowell, daughter of James and Emily Yowell, was born June 12, 1844, in Putnam county, Indiana, and passed away at their home in Sidney February 4, 1931, at the age of 86 years 7 months and 22 days. Read More	THE SIDNEY ARGUS-HERALD February 12, 1931 "A PIONEER AT REST".--Mary Frances Yowell, daughter of James and Emily Yowell, was born June 12, 1844, in Putnam county, Indiana, and passed away at their home in Sidney February 4, 1931, at the age of 86 years 7 months and 22 days. When but six years of age she moved with her parents to Menard county, Illinois. There she was married October 4, 1865 to John D. Lankton, a young soldier just back from long service in the Civil War. Soon afterward they moved to Greenview, Illinois, and after a brief residence at that place they came to Sidney, in 1871, making a continuous residence here of sixty years. She united with the Christian church at Greenview, and on coming to Iowa both she and her husband became members of the Christian church here. Mrs. Lankton was the mother of five children. One died in infancy; Charles A. and James C. passed on after reaching manhood. Those remaining are Joel W. and Mrs. Dora Hiatt, both of Sidney. There are twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lankton had been an invalid for several years, confined to her home, but in the days of health she took an active part in the social life of the community where she was known and beloved by all. She was ever much interested in the affairs of the Grand Army of the Republic, of which her husband was post commander for years. Mr. Lankton passed away some twelve years ago. Mrs. Lankton was the last of a pioneer family of eight sons and daughters, all of whom had had their full share in the upbuilding of this great midwestern empire. Funeral services were conducted from the home at 2:30 Friday, February 6, with Rev.Cecil V. Phillips officiating. Interment was in the Sidney cemetery.
