She died from appendicitis and typhoid fever. Oct 19, 1905 - Carroll Daily Herald - Grace Hamilton, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. F. Hamilton, passed away Sunday morning after a period of unconsciousness since Thursday. Yesterday in the presence of a large gathering of sorrowing friends, the funeral was held at St. Joseph's church, and Father Farrelly, in fine harmony with the impressive occasion, spoke words of cheer and consolation. It was only about three weeks ago that the deceased girl went to Des Moines to spend a few days visiting her brother and uncle. But while in that city she became seriously ill, and the parents were notified. She was taken home with all the care that loving hands could exercise and placed in St. Anthony's hospital for treatment. The physician diagnosed her case as appendicitis and an operation was performed with satisfactory results. But that was not her only trouble, for to the affliction named were added the symptoms of typhoid fever. Typhoid developed rapidly and the patient was plunged into the complications arising frbm both ailments. With either one it was possible to nurse her through to recovery, but with both the vital forces were not competent to cope. As the days and nights passed she gradually succumbed to the adverse forces. Thursday the patient sufferer passed from conscious pain, but the spirit lingered till the dawn of the Sabbath when it was wafted to eternal rest. Grace, whose age was twenty-one, was the only daughter of that peculiarly loving home. Devoted parents had watched her grow from babyhood to the hopeful age of young womanhood, and the love that went out in hope for her happiness and usefulness in a world of good works and joyous possibilities was returned in a filial regard for the devoted and affectionate parents. Family ties in such cases are not broken without severing the heart strings of those who remain to mourn the departed one. The world knows little of these family ties, they exist within the household and are kept within the sanctity of the home. Grace was born in the home where she always resided, she attended school here and her friends were the associates of her childhood and youth. In the sphere in which she moved in the years of her brief life she was nearer and dearer to those who knew her than are the noted and renowned in the greater world. Her departure leaves a void that will filled only with the lapse of time. Wounded hearts will be bound up in God's good time, and the pleasant memory of her life will remam as a source of happiness in the home that is now darkened by her early death.
