She suffered a paralytic stroke early Thursday of last week and her condition grew steadily worse from then until her death. Nordyke, and H. C. Lindell. Pall bearers were Joe S. Gourley, A. J. Wertman, Geo Farquhar, E. Y. Rice, Omer Day, and J. A. Whitney. Burial was made in the Villisca Cemetery. Mary Isabelle Smith was born December 27, 1859 near West Liberty, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood. In 1880 she came to this vicinity to teach school and taught at Walnut Hill and Morton Mills. On January 10, 1882, she was married in Villisca to Jacob H. Davis. The couple passed their fiftieth wedding anniversary last year. Immediately after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Davis went to housekeeping in the home at East Sixth Street and Seventh Avenue where they have resided al the years of their married life. Two sons were born to them, Elmo J. and Alva E., both died in early childhood. mrs. Davis united with the Methodist Church in early life and she belonged to the various women's organization of the local church. She also was an active member of the Villisca Progress Club for many years. Besides her husband, Mrs. Davis is survived by one sister, Mrs. J. E. Dennis of Hastings, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers, her father and mother. Her sisters, Mrs. Dennis came to Villisca for the funeral.
