WILLIAMSBURG — Mary Page Rice, 99, died peacefully on July 31, 2007, in Williamsburg. Mary was born Nov. 30, 1907, in Rockbridge County, Va., to Robert W. and Mary S. Page and was raised in Lexington, the youngest of six girls and two boys. She met and married Hugh Banker Rice and relocated to Williamsburg in 1948 when he became City Manager. They had one daughter, Alice Rice Cottingham of Williamsburg. Mary has been a longtime member of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church and until her death was its oldest living member. She was a member of the Jean Craig Circle. Mary was a Charter Member of the Greenspring Garden Club, has served as the Club's President and Chairman of the Christmas Homes Tour, and is a Lifetime Member. During her life, she was active in the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the American Revolution Mary was loved by family members and many friends. In addition to her daughter, Alice, she was survived by three granddaughters - Marycarol White (Bill) of Williamsburg; Patty Rigney (Jimmy) of Danville, Va.; and Ann Brown (Scott) of Millersville, Pa.; six great-grandchildren - Billy White (Julie), Charles White, Jay Rigney, Katie Rigney, Megan Brown, and Robbie Brown; two Great-Great-Grandchildren -- Taylor and Julianne White a very special niece, Adrienne Ayres (Harold) of Williamsburg and four nieces and nephews in Lexington, Va. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the entire staff of the Patriot's Colony Convalescent Center for the loving care they've given her for the last year and a half. A Memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at Williamsburg United Methodist Church, with a reception following at the church. Burial will be at noon Friday in Lexington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Williamsburg United Methodist Church. Bucktrout Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
