Obituary for Mary Jane (Smith) Hendrickson Kirkpatrick Morgan: Mary Jane Smith Morgan was born October 16, 1847 in Logan County, Illinois, and passed to her last rest from the Old Soldiers Home, Grand Island, Nebr., May 20, 1934 at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 13 days. Mrs. Morgan was a former resident of this community, having came from Illinois as one of the early settlers and pioneers to Nebraska in 1871. She was one of the early members and faithful workers iin the Gresham Methodist Church. She had spent approximately the last nine years of her life in Old Soldiers Home in Grand Island. Seven of her grandsons were soldiers in the World War. Having labored and lived to a ripe old age she lays down her task. "Now the laborer's task is o'er Now the battle day is past: Lands the voyager at last. Father, in Thy gracious keeping Leave we now thy servant sleeping." Her parting bereaves the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Minnie Carpenter of Burwell, Nebr.; Mrs. Roxie Stout of Rockford, Ill.; Mrs. W. M. Hendrickson of Omaha; Mrs. C. E. Roe of Ashland, Mrs. Leta Gray of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. B. H. Sprague of Los Angeles, California and Mr. J. W. Hendrickson of Omaha; besides many grandchildren, relatives and friends. The body was held in state at the local Mortuary with funeral services at the Methodist church Gresham, at 2:00 P. M. Thursday May 31, with pastor, Rev. Albert C. Monkman officiating. The body's final resting place was concluded in the Cedar Lawn Cemetery. *Suggested edit: From research Mary Jane Smith changed her name.
