Description	:	Mary Katherine "Kay" Brumit, 86, of Slater, died Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater, with Frs. Kevin Gormley and Richard Frank officiating. Burial will be in the Slater City Cemetery, with Jacob Brumit, William Brumit, Matt Brumit, Scott Jenkins, Dallas Williams, Daniel Morton and Aaron Post serving as pallbearers. Born November 22, 1926 in Marshall, she was the daughter of the late Louis J. and Mary Montgomery Spreitzer. On June 8, 1946 in Boonville, she married Wilmer J. "Bill" Brumit, and he preceded her in death on October 10, 1987. She is survived by two sons, Larry Brumit and his wife Kathy of Slater, and David Brumit and his wife Bobbie of Columbia; two daughters, Barbara Wright of Marshall, and Brenda Casey and her husband Lloyd of Blue Springs; 10 grandchildren, Kimberly Jenkins, Kourtenay Householter, Amy Williams, Melissa Morton, Jacob Brumit, Molly Brumit, Angela Post, Will Brumit and Matt Brumit; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond Spreitzer of Wichita Falls, Texas, Melvin Spreitzer of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Don Spreitzer of Overland Park, Kansas; and four sisters, Margie Butts and Joyce Garrison, both of Marshall, Joan Dale of Shawnee, Kansas, and Barbara Norconk of Traverse City, Michigan. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Casey and a sister, Shirley Adcock. Mrs. Brumit was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater, and its Altar and Rosary Sodality. She worked for several years as a cook at the Central R-2 School, and with American Home Care. She was a 4-H Leader, and a member of the 4-H Council Extension. She was also a member of the Davis Extension Club and the Slater Garden Club. She and her husband farmed in rural Slater most of their lives. Published in Kansas City Star on May 5, 2013
