The family lived in Council Bluffs a few years and Mary attended school there. Most of her younger life was spent in Villisca where she attended school and graduated from the Villisca High School in 1925. She also attended nurses training one year in Chicago, Illinois On Aug. 5, 1926, she was married to Clifford A. Embree. They lived near Grant She was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women's Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1984; two sisters, Rachel Spargur and Eleanor Hammerlund; and a grandson. She is survived by two sons. Marvin (wife Evelyn) Embree of Elliott, and Carol (wife Mary Ellen) Embree of Littleton, Colo.; and a daughter. Beverly Walker of Grant; and grandchildren. Services were held August 9, at the Grant United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sandra Wainwright officiating. Burial was in the Grant Cemetery. Casket bearers were Jeff Weston, Mark Embree, Scott Embree, Allen Embree, Mike Nielsen, RichardWeston. Memorials may be made to the Grant UnitedMethodist Church. Sutphen-Beaty Funeral Home of Villisca was in charge of the arrangements. Adams County Free Press, August 11, 1994
