Married 22 April 2005 Roy W. Pearson. Mary L. (McElvain) Stephenson Pearson, of Holdrege, Nebraska died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at Phelps Memorial Health Center, Holdrege, Nebraska. Mary and her twin sister, Margaret, were born on March 28, 1924 at Holdrege to Nicholas Edgard and Tressa (Overholser) McElvain. Mary and Margaret grew up on a farm in Phelps County, Nebraska and graduated from the Wilcox (NE.) High School. In 1947, she married Cecil L. Stephenson. Cecil passed away in 1975. Mary was employed by Grainger Brothers, Holdrege, Nebraska. for four years as office manager, before being employed by K-K Appliance Company, Holdrege, Nebraska in 1948, where she served as Corporate Secretary and Comptroller. She was also on the Board of Directors of K-K Appliance and R.W. Pearson, Inc. until K-K Appliance Co. was sold in 1993. Community interests led Mary to become a life member of Phelps Memorial Health Center Service League and the Phelps County Historical Society. She served for six years as Director of the Phelps County Community Foundation, also six years as Treasurer of the Foundation. She was a member of the Holdrege Great Plains Art Guild, taking a course at Kearney State College in painting with water colors. Mary was also a Charter Patron of the Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA) in Kearney, Nebraska. Mary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Holdrege, Nebraska serving as Deacon, Elder and Chairwoman of the Session. Her hobbies were traveling, seeing the world, knitting and watercolorist. She was an accomplished seamstress in hand work and tailoring. In 2005, she was united in marriage to Roy W. Pearson, following the death of his wife. Roy preceded her in death in 2010. Besides parents and husbands, Cecil L. Stephenson and Roy W. Pearson, Mary was preceded in death by: brothers, Robert Thomas McElvain in 2005 and his wife, Inez in 2010 and Edgar William "Bill" McElvain in 2013. Mary is survived by: twin sister, Margaret Dyer and her husband, Daryl of Grinnell, Iowa; sister-in-law, Carolyn McElvain of Holdrege, Nebraska; three generations of nieces and nephews; husband, Roy's son, R. Michael Pearson of Shiloh, Illinois; Roy's granddaughter, Michelle Suberly and her husband, Michael and their three daughters: Renae, Jessica and Elizabeth all of O'Fallon, Illinois and many friends whom she enjoyed throughout her life. Inurnment was in Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege, Nebraska.
