Description	:	Mary Lou Grant, called Lou, was the daughter of Andrew Grant and Martha Mackey Grant. She was born in Rutherford County, NC around 1804. She lived with her family on land which is quite close to present day Lake Lure, on Bill's Creek. Her father had been a Revolutionary War soldier. Lou was never married but was in a non-marital relationship with Ichabod Keeter with whom she had one son, Wilkey Icabod Grant, born in 1821. She was born in Rutherford County, NC around 1804. She lived with her family on land which is quite close to present day Lake Lure, on Bill's Creek. Her father had been a Revolutionary War soldier. Lou was never married but was in a non-marital relationship with Ichabod Keeter with whom she had one son, Wilkey Icabod Grant, born in 1821. It is not known why Icabod and Lou did not marry; Icabod went on to marry a cousin, Martha Keeter and have many children with her. Rutherford County Court Minutes, Bastardly Bonds, 1926; Ichabod Keeter and Mary Grant are listed as unwed parents of a child. [I do not know if she appeared in person or if family represented her but family believe she died shortly after Wilkey was born]. I personally have not seen this record to verify the date either. So she died after 1821 (when her one child was born)—or after 1826 if she indeed appeared in court in person— or before 1840. It's important for researchers to remember that she had one child only. Her sister had two children, a son and a daughter; I would be interested in seeing the Bonds for these children rather than the repeated, "Was to appear before court to give answer to bastard children in the home." I cannot find the 1930 Census for the family; if I do, I'll return here to update. She lived in NC, Buncombe and Rutherford Counties (Where she lived when her son Wilkey was born). Wilkey was raised by his Grandmother, Martha MacKey Grant who took him and the family (including Mary Lou's sister Elizabeth C. "Betsy" Grant and Betsy's two children) to Macon Co., NC between 1830 and 1840 after Martha was widowed. Mountain Links Thanks to Angela Grant for contribution on this also!)
