Mary Lou Warneking, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska. Mary Lou was born November 2, 1933 in Randall, Kansas, the fifth of six children born to Louis and Mary May (Montgomery) Hare. Mary Lou received her primary education in several country schools in Jewell County, Kansas, and graduated from Lovewell High School in Kansas with the class of 1951. On August 8, 1954, she was united in marriage to Howard Herman Warneking at the Baptist Church in Superior, Nebraska and to this union three children were born: Linda, Lee and Tim. The couple made their home in Superior, until later moving to Loomis, Nebraska in 1964. Howard and Mary Lou enjoyed gardening, playing cards, bingo and most of all spending time with their grandchildren. Mary Lou worked at the Superior Veterinary Office in Superior until later moving to Loomis, where she worked as a Loom tender at Artistic Woven Labels in Holdrege for 25 years. Mary Lou was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the PTA in Loomis. She loved to spend her time crocheting, knitting, and doing embroidery. Mary Lou also loved growing flowers and gardening, but most of all she cherished her time spent with her grandkids. Besides her parents; Mary Lou was preceded in death by four brothers: Charles Hare and his wife, Donna, Donald Hare, Merle Hare and his wife, Marilyn, and Arnold Hare; brother-in-law, Eugene Markowski; and niece: Patricia Markowski. She leaves to celebrate her life: her husband of 62 years, Howard; her three children: Linda Brown and her husband, Kent of Axtell, Nebraska, Lee Warneking and his wife, Virginia of Wood River, Nebraska, and Tim Warneking of Grand Island, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Jeff Warneking and his wife, Emilie of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Brian Warneking and his wife, Vanessa of Omaha, Nebraska, Dustin Brown of Axtell, Nebraska, and Rachel Brown and her husband, John Mutchie of Waverly, Nebraska; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister: Isabel Markowski; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial Book Signing was held on Monday, June 26, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. A memorial has been established in Mary Lou’s honor and will be designated at a later date.
