Arnold Wayne: 26 Jan 1928; d. 6 Jul 1970 One stepdaughter, Susan Edna Whorton: 11 Mar 1913; d. 12 Apr 1989 She and Gilderoy were living in Lock Lynn Heights, Maryland with their five young children at the time of Gilderoy's accidental death on July 13, 1925, when the Whorton Company cement truck he was driving collided with another truck parked without lights on the road. In 1943 Mary moved to Baltimore with her three children, Martha Ellen, Ada Lee, and Arnold Wayne, where she resided until her death in 1953. OBITUARY WHORTON, Mrs. Mary L. Friend, 58, widow of Gilderoy Whorton, died Saturday at her home in Baltimore. She had been ill for several months. A native of Friendsville, she was born July 11, 1894, and was a daughter of the late Joseph and Alice VanSickle Friend. A former resident of Oakland, she was a member of the S. Mark's Lutheran Church of Oakland. Surviving are two sons, Joseph W. Whorton, Arnold Whorton; two daughters, Mrs. Kermit Jesse, Mrs. George Hutchinson; also a brother, Reese Friend; a half-sister, Mrs. Cora Humberston; two half-brothers, James VanSickle; Lloyd VanSickle. A daughter, Mrs. Martha Ellen Kemp, died March 20 in Baltimore. Funeral service were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Bolden Funeral Home, with Rev. George C. Weirick, pastor of the Lutheran church at Aurora, WV, officiating. Internment was in the Oakland cemetery. Pallbearers were Leo Helbig, Alva G. Gortner, W. W. Dawson, L. M. Fraley, John Criss, and Robert W. Lohr, members of the Oakland Fire Department, of which her husband was a member until his accidental death in 1935.
