Born on January 8, 1922, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph U. and Mary A. (Brinker) Wampe. Read More	Mary Louise Minke January 8, 1922 - March 1, 2015 Mary L. Minke, 93, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 1, 2015 at the Lions Center for Rehabilitation and Extended Care. Born on January 8, 1922, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph U. and Mary A. (Brinker) Wampe. Mary worked at the Celanese Corporation during World War II and retired from the Allegany County Board of Education Washington Middle School cafeteria. She was a life-long member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church, a member of St. Mary's Sodality and St. Mary's Martha's Group. She was an active church volunteer helping with all the church dinners until she was no longer able. She, along with her sister, Helen, was honored with the Woman-of-the-Year Award at the annual parish mother/daughter dinner in April 2004. Mary was a kind person, always there to lend a helping hand to her family and friends. She had an amazing faith, strength, and courage to accept all of life's challenges without complaints. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Jo Ann Lease and husband Ed of Cumberland; her son, James T. Minke and wife Rebecca of Wiley Ford; three grandchildren, Michelle Howard and husband Mike of Delmar,DE, Heather Kirk and husband Chris of Cape St. Claire, Annapolis, Skyler Minke of Kalaishi Martiville Raioni, Republic of Georgia; four great-grandchildren, Zach and Lani Howard of Delmar, DE and Chloe and Isabelle “Belle” Kirk of Cape St. Claire, Annapolis; nephews, Robert Wimpe and wife Cindy, Larry Wimpe, Richard “Mickey” Coleman and wife Peggy, and Joseph Coleman and wife Judy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Minke; three sisters, Adelaide Wempe, Helen Wempe, and Josephine “Dolly” Coleman; five brothers, Lt. John Wempe, Raymond Wempe, Frederick Wempe, Rev. Lawrence Wempe and Leo Wempe. She was the last surviving member of her family. Friends and family will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to every caretaker, nurse, activities staff, dietary, housekeeping, hairdresser and administrative staff for the outstanding care and love given to our mother over her last 4 ½ years as a resident of the Lions Center. Your support, encouragement and special times shared with Mom will always be remembered. Special thanks to Dr. Huma Shakil for your kindness and many years of compassionate care during office and nursing home visits. Sincere appreciation is also extended to all Eucharistic Ministers who visited each Friday.
