NOTES FROM DENOVA, August 31, 1896 -- A very unlooked for wedding was solemnized in our neighborhood last Thursday, the contracting parties being Mrs. Mary Frazer, one of our most respected widow ladies, and Mr. John Coffin, of Earlham, Iowa. Mrs. Frazer had been a widow nearly thirty years. She had lived to see all her children married, and we feel certain she did the right thing in getting married herself. They expect to remain on her farm near Denova. -o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o Mary M. Hockett was born December 9, 1833, in Randolph County, Indiana, the daughter of Edward and Betsey (Harris) Hockett. She came to this county with her parents when about five years of age. She was married to Alson G. Frazer July 21, 1853, who died January 28, 1866. Seven children were born to this union, Edward H., Mattie Lamm, Hannah Moon, Ella Smith, Rebecca White, Albert H. and Alson G., all of this county. She was again united in marriage to John M. Coffin August 27, 1896, who with her children, thirty-five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters and three brothers, are left to mourn the loss of a loving wife, mother, and sister. She had been in feeble health for some years, but was taken seriously ill the middle of April. She bore her afflictions with patience and Christian fortitude, until released by death at 5 o'clock p.m. August 2, 1904. An impressive funeral service was held at Cedar Creek on August 3, conducted by the pastor, Bessie Ferguson, and others. -- Salem Weekly News, August 11, 1904, page 1.
