Frazer, daughter of Alson G. and Mary (Hockett) Frazer, was born in Henry County, Iowa, on July 16, 1860, and passed peacefully away September 7, 1940, aged 80 years, 1 month, and 21 days. Her entire life was spent in the Denova neighborhood with the exception of 17 years in Kansas. On February 4, 1880, she was married to Thomas Penn Smith, who with three children survive. Her entire life was spent in the Denova neighborhood with the exception of 17 years in Kansas. On February 4, 1880, she was married to Thomas Penn Smith, who with three children survive. They are Mrs. Chas. Brown and Sidney Smith of Mt. Pleasant; and Mrs. Everett Ruggles, Natoma, Kansas. She was of a family of seven children, two brothers Edward Frazer of Mt. Pleasant and Alson Frazer of Crookston, Minnesota, and one sister Rebecca White of Salem, survive. Mrs. Albert Lamm, Mrs. John Moon, and Mr. Albert Frazer preceded her in death. Seven grandchildren and two great granddaughters are left. Twelve years ago her health began failing and for ten years she has been helpless, but she never complained and always greeted friends with a smile. Ella Smith, as she was well known among us, was a birthright member of the Friends Church, converted in her youth and always fervently interested in the welfare of the church. She was a helpful member of the Missionary Society and the last charter member of the Denova W.C.T.U. Funeral services were held at the Cedar Creek Church Monday at 2:30 p.m. Bessie F. Collins was in charge and read 1st Thessalonians 4:13-18 using as her text verse 18. Dean Buster, the local pastor, assisted by reading John 14:1-20 and offering prayer. A large and concourse of people were present many friends among them. Interment was in Cedar Creek Cemetery. The songs "Sometime We'll Understand" and "Going Down the Valley" were sung. --Salem Weekly News, September 12, 1940, page 1
