Her funeral was July 8 at St. Mary's, Centralia, with burial at the St. Francis Cemetery on Cowlitz Prairie, near Toledo. Maggie, as she was known by her many friends and relatives was born on September 5, 1920 to Joseph and Dorothea Steffen in Constance, NE, the eldest of ten children. She married Leo H. Borte, Cowlitz Prairie, on September 5, 1945 in Constance, and moved to their home on South Gold Street in Centralia where they raised their 12 children. They were both active members of St. Mary's Catholic Church until their deaths. He died October 11, 1996. Maggie had a gift and a passion for growing flowers, especially roses. Many people would stop by to admire her hard work. She always kept up with the news and became a serious sports fan. In her later years, she had the opportunity to travel throughtout the United States and Europe. She was alson known for her great cooking and baking. She is survived by her children include: Barbara Middaugh, Kent, WA; Rosemarie Borte, Bellevue, WA; Joe borte, Centraila; Jim (Brenda) Borte, Port Angeles, WA; Steve (Anjali) borte, Atlanta, GA, Donna King, Kent; Marian (Jim) Long, Centralia; Carol Borte, Kent; Linda (Mike) Huse, Bellevue; Mike (Sally) Borte, Renton, WA; Joan Olsen, Renton; and Tom (Denise) Borte, Renton; 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; her sisters: Delores (Delbert) Broders, Helen (Bill) Volquardson, Theresa Sorenson, Rosie (George) Pitman and brothers George (Shirley) Steffen and James (Janice) Steffen. She was preceded in death by her brother Freddie, who died at age two months, and brother Daniel, who died while serving in the Korean War. Crofton Journal Crofton, NE July 14, 2011
